The medal was awarded to Lieutenant Evans Stanley MacLennan of the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) for actions in combat against enemy submarines in 1917.
British decoration made of silver. The obverse has the Royal Cypher «GRI» (George V Rex Imperator) and the reverse the marking «Lieut. E. S. Maclennan. D. S. C. / R.N.R. / 1917» and the four markings: SG (the maker Sebastian Henry Garrard-Garrard & Co Ltd. ), British lion (Standard Mark of the London and other English Assay Offices), lepoard head (Mark of Origin of Town Mark London) and the letter «b» (in reference to the year 1917). The ring also has the acceptance marking.
