Description

Japan.

Katana, kyūhachi-shiki guntō or Shin Gunto of the Type 98 Officer of the Imperial Japanese Army.

The Shin Gunto of the Type 98 was introduced in 1938 as a successor to the Type 94, differing from it basically by having only one scabbard hanger. This katana was the norm for all Japanese Imperial Army officers until the end of World War II.

This Shin Gunto retains all the original metal parts, including the two handle Menukis, the Tsuba or guard, the three marked Seppas, the Tsuka-Ito or handle wrap, the Same or rayskin and the Kabuto-gane , Semegane, Sayajiri and Fuchi, the rest of the metal parts that make up the gunto.

The Tsuba is the first empty model.

The blade is not signed and is kept in good condition but with small notches of use.
