The Order of Military Merit of Yugoslavia was established on December 29, 1951, by the government of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. This decoration recognized outstanding military service, especially in the organization, development, and strengthening of national defense. It was awarded to officers of the Yugoslav People’s Army, civilians, and also to foreigners, both in peacetime and in conflict situations.
