Japan. Jingasa (陣笠) is how the samurai or ashigaru (common soldiers) war hat is known. Jingasa illustrated with family emblems were worn by samurai of higher rank.
This Japanese jingasa is from the 19th century, late Edo period, and has the Mon or family emblem used by the Goto clan (五島氏) from the province of Hizen.
Made of lacquered wood in black on the outside and red on the inside.
Keep the inner fabric harnesses.
